Grab your team and enter the Juneteenth Grilling Cook-Off Contest!    Share “just a taste” of your grilling creations with the crowd in their taster kits! 

 

Entry Fee:
$25/category.  All entry fees are non-refundable.

Grilling Categories:

  • Chicken
  • Ribs/Pork Loin
  • Beef Brisket

1st place prize          $50.00 & Plaque for each category
2nd & 3rd place prizes             Plaque for each category

The crowd is your judge!  Music, decorations, etc. are encouraged.
Extra Bonus for the best decoration, costume and theme.

Grilling Contest Rules

  • Location: City Park, Manhattan KS
  • Teams will consist of no more than five team members.
  • Fires must be wood, pellets, charcoal, or gas. Holies or open pits are not permitted.  
  • All cooks must check-in at the City Park Pavilion, Manhattan, KS at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, June 16th for the cook’s meeting, instructions, and to get answers to any questions. 
  • Teams will pick up their choice of meat on Friday, June 15th at 6:00 p.m., City Park Pavilion.
  •  You must have samples for 200 people.  Just give out a sample.  This is not an “all you can eat” event.  We are expecting a good number of people to taste your food.
  • The crowd will purchase a taster kit and come around to sample your entry.  Each taster kit will have a crowd pleasing ticket for each of the categories.
  • Cooks can entice votes by booth decorating, music, dance, theme, etc. 
  • All meats must be cooked on the premises.  
  • Cooks are to prepare and cook food in as sanitary a manner as possible.  Cooking conditions are subject to inspection by the Manhattan Juneteenth committee.  Failure to comply is subject to disqualification. 
  • Winners will be judged by the crowd; the number of crowd pleasing tickets placed in your jar. 
  • You cannot run out of food before 1:00 p.m.  Although we will be monitoring this, we ask your cooperation.  Come have a good time! 
  • Crowd pleasing judging ticket jars will be picked up from your booth at 2:00 p.m. 
  • Prizes will be announced on the main stage at 2:30.
